Pesto Genovese
Pesto Genovese is my (Maja’s) favorite summer pesto. You can find delicious ingredients like basil, pine nuts, and garlic in it. It’s made in about 5 minutes; you will need a food chopper, food processor or immersion blender. It’s so easy. You can use your pesto immediately or store it in the fridge or freezer for later use. Quick, easy, and incredibly versatile summer recipe.

Pesto Genovese - delicious basil pesto

Pesto Genovese is a famous Italian pesto recipe originating from Genoa. The ingredients in this recipe are easily accessible and delicious. We will need basil, garlic, olive oil, Parmesan cheese, and pine nuts. It's one of the best pestos we have ever tried.

These are the top reasons why you should make it at home as soon as possible:

  • fresh, light, delicious, and quick to make (5 minutes)
  • gluten-free and vegetarian-friendly
  • can be stored in a fridge and freezer
  • great for a variety of dishes like pasta, chicken, fish, salads, veggies

What to serve with Pesto Genovese

We have so many delicious ideas about basil pesto in our Spinach Basil Pesto post, so head there to check it out. We also recently made an amazing Caprese Sandwich using this recipe. So good.

Storing and freezing

Store your pesto in a covered jar. Add a tablespoon of olive oil on top. Cover the exterior of the pot with aluminum foil to prevent oxidation. Place in the fridge and keep chilled for up to a week.

You can also freeze your delicious Pesto alla Genovese. Fill the ice cube mold with the pesto. Place in the freezer. Let the pesto cubes freeze entirely; it will take about 4 - 6 hours. Then, transfer the frozen pesto cubes to a freezer bag. Keep frozen for up to 2 -3 months.
